So it shouldn't come as a surprise that government censorship would be next on the list.

The Trump administration has banned the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from using certain words and phrases in any official documents related to next year's budget. On the list: "diversity", "fetus", "transgender", "vulnerable", "entitlement", "science-based" and "evidence-based".

In some instances, the analysts were given alternative phrases. According to The Washington Post, this included "CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes", in place of the phrases "science-based" or "evidence-based".

No replacements were offered for other words.

Numerous news sources are reporting on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been banned from using seven words in any official documents for the 2019 budget.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

For example, Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees CDC, no longer asks questions about sexual orientation and gender identity in two surveys of American seniors.

But as Harvard Global Health Institute director Dr. Ashish Jha told Stat News, the decision to censor the seven words will likely force staff to self-censor their work.

It was very much, 'Are you serious? The reaction to the people in the meeting, when told of this was "incredulous", the analyst said.

"In my experience, we've never had any pushback from an ideological standpoint", the analyst said.

According to the Post, other CDC officials have confirmed the existence of a list of forbidden words, raising the possibility that the ban is in effect in other parts of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

- In September, The Washington Post reported a former Trump campaign aide in charge of vetting Environmental Protection Agency grants instructed EPA grant officers to eliminate references to "climate change" in the subject in solicitations. "HHS also strongly encourages the use of outcome and evidence data in program evaluations and budget decisions".

In other words, the agency charged with protecting Americans from epidemics and safeguarding the health of the public must now formally avoid saying anything even slightly politically inconvenient to Republicans if it wants funding.
