North Korea regularly threatens to destroy South Korea, the United States and Japan, and says its weapons are necessary to counter USA aggression.

North Korea will continue enhancing its nuclear defensive potential and the United States should put up with the idea that Pyongyang won't give up these weapons, its Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

The U.N. Security Council unanimously approved tough new sanctions against North Korea on Friday in response to its latest launch of a ballistic missile that Pyongyang says can reach anywhere on the US mainland.

North Korea on Sunday rejected the resolution, calling it an act of war.

Previous sanctions, however, have not deterred the regime in Pyongyang from developing its nuclear weapons program. "We urge North Korea to change its course".

The UN on Saturday voted to toughen the sanctions on the isolated dictatorship, imposing a ban of almost 90% of refined petroleum exports to the country.

North Korea on November 29 said it successfully tested a new ICBM that put the US mainland within range of its nuclear weapons.

'We will further consolidate our self-defensive nuclear deterrence aimed at fundamentally eradicating the United States nuclear threats, blackmail and hostile moves by establishing the practical balance of force with the U.S, ' it said.

The Joongang Ilbo Daily newspaper, citing an unnamed South Korean government official, reported on Tuesday that North Korea could also be preparing to launch a satellite into space.

Kulbhushan Jadhav's meeting with wife, mother obscured by glass screen, Pakistan propaganda
Mohammed Faisal, spokesperson, Pakistan foreign ministry, said: "Commander Jadhav is the face of Indian terrorism in Pakistan". Jadhav's mother and wife left India on Monday accompanied by an official of the Union Ministry of External Affairs.

"Those countries that raised their hands in favor of this "sanctions resolution" shall be held completely responsible for all the consequences to be caused by the "resolution" and we will make sure for ever and ever that they pay heavy price for what they have done".

The North's old allies China and Russian Federation both supported the latest measure.

"It sends the unambiguous message to Pyongyang that further defiance will invite further punishment and isolation", Ambassador Nikki Haley said after the vote.

The current limit was set in a Security Council resolution adopted in September following the North's sixth and most powerful nuclear test.

U.S. diplomats have made clear they are seeking a diplomatic solution but proposed the new, tougher sanctions resolution to ratchet up pressure on North Korea's leader.

Hua noted it also called for the use of peaceful means to resolve the issue and that all sides should take steps to reduce tension.

China, which accounts for about 90 percent of the North's trade and is a main supplier of oil to the country, also insisted on diplomacy.

Chinese state-run tabloid the Global Times said on Saturday the tougher resolution was aimed at preventing war.

While Russia voted for the resolution, its ambassador complained about the USA focus on sanctions rather than talks.
