Sensex Wraps up 2017 on High Note, Finishes at Life-Time High

On Friday, Nifty50 closed 53 points up at 10,531, while BSE Sensex settled 209 points up at 34,057.

The Sensex clocked its best performance in recent years in 2017, rising by 7,430.37, or 27.91 per cent year-on-year. The broader indices outperformed the benchmark indices and ended in the positive territory. The indices logged biggest yearly gains in three years as strong foreign fund inflows, hopes of an improving economy and higher corporate earnings boosted investor confidence. The Sensex advanced by 116.53 points, or 0.34 per cent, while the Nifty gained 37.70 points, or 0.35 per cent, during the period.

The NSE Nifty slid 40.75 points, or 0.39 percent, to 10,490.75 after scaling a new peak of 10,552.40.

Shares of Reliance Communications continued their rally for the fourth straight session Friday, ending 17 per cent higher after Mukesh Ambani stepped in to bail out the debt-ridden firm by acquiring spectrum, tower, optical fibre network and other assets.

BSE Power index gained 1.63%, while Reliance Power and GMR Infra gaining over 12% and 11%, respectively. The CAC 40 of France slipped 0.55%, DAX of Germany lost 0.69%, while FTSE 100 of the United Kingdom closed above the neutral line.
