Sunday is New Years Eve and many will be staying up until midnight to ring in the new year.

Children and families celebrated New Year's at noon at the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum in the City of Poughkeepsie on Sunday.

"This is one of our favorite celebrations of the entire year", she said.

But despite the earlier countdown and balloon drop, those in attendance weren't any less enthusiastic. "It's an affordable and fun event where the kids get to participate in a ball drop without having to stay up until midnight".

"I don't think there's a lot for kids to celebrate the new year.I think people see it as more of an adult holiday", Children's Museum Director of Education Peter Jacobsen.

Some of the youngsters calmly toasted the New Year by clinking plastic glasses filled with apple cider, while many others raucously pounced on the fallen balloons to pop as many as possible during what can only be described as a full-on frenzy. It's a party that kids can enjoy.

Their parents were sitting nearby, relaxing for a moment amid a busy New Year's Eve day.

Majka came to the New Year's at Noon event with her 3-year-old son Jimmie.

"Nobody falls asleep or anything, and we can just have fun", guest Ella Lighthart said.

And, with the weather being as cold as it has been over the past few days, Saturday's event was an opportunity to burn off some energy and keep from being stir insane, Majka said.
