The United Kingdom is now copping a full force blast of that atrocious and extremely unsafe influenza strain that swept across Australia this past flu season.

There's only a handful of things walking the planet that can safely say they managed to bash Conor McGregor senseless, and a virus grown right here in Australia is the latest member of that exclusive club.

The organisation has urged everyone, especially those who fall in the at-risk group, to go for flu jabs, as: "Prevention is better than cure".

The A virus, which looks like it could be the worst type, grows and mutates three times faster than B and is seen as one of the worst in history and similar to that of Spanish flu and Swine flu.

Emergency doctors in Dublin, Limerick, Donegal and Galway all reported a substantial increase of calls from those suffering flu-like symptoms.

The HSE has outlined how the symptoms of influenza can differ from the common cold.

However, it will not know the success of the Irish vaccine until flu season is over.

"They [Australia] just had a lot of cases, the most they've had since 2009, which was a pandemic year", Dr. David Relman, an infectious disease specialist at Stanford Health Care, told the San Francisco Chronicle.

"It is of the utmost importance for those that can get vaccinated, to get vaccinated".

"There are deaths every year that happen directly as a result of the flu", Dr Kelleher said "which account for about 18 to 20 fatalities".

Australia - whose winter occurs during the British summer - had one of its worst outbreaks on record, with two and a half times the normal number of cases.

"Those people who ran into severe complications didn't have the vaccine", he said. Those over 65, pregnant women and those under 65 with various health conditions are particularly at risk.

Meanwhile, figures released by Public Health England show a sharp rise in cases, triggered by a surge in two aggressive subtypes attacking the population simultaneously.

Doctors in the United Kingdom have warned that it could be the worst outbreak of the bug in 50 years, as official figures revealed cases more than doubled in just one week.

Some of the Australia's A&E units had "standing-room only" after being swamped by more than 100,000 cases of the H3N2 strain.

The H3N2 subtype triggered two and a half times the normal number of cases in Australia.
