Addressing security concerns, the US Customs and Borders Protection said that there was no indication that the service disruption was malicious in nature.

Operations at other major airports, including John F. Kennedy in NY and Fort Worth International in Dallas, were also impacted.

A spokeswoman for the agency says a two-hour outage starting around 7:30 p.m.

Shortly after the outage ended, the CBP tweeted, "All airports are back on line after a temporary outage of CBP's processing systems".

The outage is affecting other airports across the county, according to an official familiar with the situation. "The result was a backup of people", King said.

A few minutes later, another tweet said the customs processing issue was resolved.

Customs says that passengers continued to be processed during the outage, "using alternative procedures at affected airports".

A spokesperson tells CBS News that Customs and Border Patrol has been contacted and are investigating.

Travelers entering the U.S. have been growing increasingly frustrated at long security queues as immigration desk computers at various United States airports shut down for about two hours on Monday, media reports have said. It said Monday night that all airports were back on line.

Customs officers still had security to national security databases, Garbis said.
