Justice Department Reopens Investigations Into Clinton Foundation, Political Favors for Donations

Bill Clinton said the decision to reopen the investigation wouldn't have been as damaging had the controversy surrounding her emails not been overblown in the first place. Officials' questions include how much classified information was sent over Clinton's server; who put that information into an unclassified environment, and how; and which investigators knew about these matters and when.
The new probe was prompted by President Trump's repeated calls on Twitter and elsewhere for another FBI investigation into "Crooked Hillary", the source said. "No justice!" he tweeted last month.
Conservatives continue to promote this narrative as it's one of Fox News' favorite and most recurring stories, and the conservative group Judicial Watch even filed a lawsuit against the DOJ, which showed that classified material was on the computer of Huma Abedin's (Clinton's former deputy chief of staff) husband Anthony Weiner. On a similar note, agents are also trying to decipher whether Hillary Clinton pushed favorable policies while acting as secretary of state for donations to the Foundation. Clinton's private e-mail server is also reportedly being looked at, at least to some degree, as DOJ officials are said to be exploring whether the previous email investigation left anything unresolved.
Nick Merrill, Clinton's spokesman, said Trump was just manufacturing a distraction from bad news engulfing his administration - including the bombshell new book by Michael Wolff, "Fire and Fury", which paints a dismal picture of the president's White House. But Hillary Clinton has cited the controversy surrounding Comey's October 28 letter announcing that he was reopening the investigation as politically damaging and detrimental to her presidential bid.
A spokesperson for the Justice Department declined to comment to the Daily Beast.
