Ranchi: The Ranchi Special CBI Court sentenced former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav to 3.5 years in jail and imposed Rs 5 lakh fine in fodder scam case.

Lalu Prasad is also facing trial in three more cases relating to the fodder scam, also known as "chara ghotala".

In today's scam case order, former chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Jagdish Sharma was sentenced to a prison term of seven years and fined Rs 20 lakh while RJD leader R K Rana was jailed for three and six months and fined Rs 10 lakh.

In fact, Lalu's other son, Tej Pratap Yadav is confident that his father will definitely get a bail. He has been accused in five cases of fodder scam and convicted in two.

While quoting party's state president Ramchandra Purve, it is reported by the media sources that, Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of Opposition and Lalu's son, is likely to become the party's CM face for the 2020 Assembly post.

The presiding judge said, "An open jail is best for these people (convicts), as they also have experience of cow farming'".

Helena Kmart closing is "disappointing, but not surprising"
However, she said Helena's unemployment rate is now very low, so Kmart employees may have an easier time finding another job. In early July it was announced that the Kenosha Sears store would be closing, and it did shutter its doors by October.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and 15 others were convicted on December 23 in a case related to the multi-million-rupee fodder scam by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court.

On Friday, citing illness and old age, Lalu had sought leniency from the court. The case pertained to fraudulent withdrawal of ₹84.5 lakh from the Deoghar district (now in Jharkhand) treasury during the period 1991-94.

At the emergency meeting of the party today, Tejashwi Yadav said the people were with Lalu Yadav.

However, the court could not pronounce the quantum of punishment on January 5 as well and the sentencing deferred for one more day.

The CBI special judge had on December 23 acquitted former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra and five others in the case.
