  • James Damore sues Google for discrimination against conservative white men

James Damore, the former Google engineer who was sacked for writing a memo suggesting men were better suited than women for certain tech jobs, is suing the company for allegedly discriminating against white, conservative men.

Damore's fellow plaintiff in the class action is another Google employee, a former software engineer named David Gudeman.

"Google's open hostility for conservative thought is paired with invidious discrimination on the basis of race and gender, barred by law", says the lawsuit, filed by Dhillon Law Group.

The suit claims white men were booed at company-wide meetings: "Not only was the numerical presence of women celebrated at Google exclusively due to their gender, but the presence of Caucasians and males was mocked with "boos" during company-wide weekly meetings".

Start time, TV schedule and how to watch FA Cup online
Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy is an injury doubt having come off in the home defeat against Sunderland. Nottingham Forest and Arsenal will face each other at the City Ground in the FA Cup this afternoon.

"I agree that there is an ideological echo chamber inside Google (I'm a SWE there)", one self-identified Google engineer, called Ida, wrote in a blog post on Y Combinator.

The suit claims Google maintains a blacklist of conservatives media personalities not allowed on company grounds: It allegedly includes radio host Alex Jones and conservative blogger Curtis Yarvin.

It alleges that Google singles out and punish employees like Damore who expressed views that don't align with how the majority of employees at the tech firm feel about politics and diversity efforts.

Damore became a media mainstay after penning a highly controversial 3,300-word memo arguing against Google's perceived culture of political correctness. The memo in which he criticized the company's hiring practices, and claimed that disparities between men and women in the technology industry were at least partially due to behavioral differences between those genders due to biology, led to his firing from the company in August.
