Maelstrom of Controversy-Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House

  • White House special adviser Stephen Miller defends US President Donald Trump on the CNN show State of the Union

"I don't think anybody quite understood what this book was going to become", he said.

"I came to like Steve", Wolff said.

Miller also criticized Bannon, who is quoted extensively in the book, saying it was "tragic and unfortunate" that Bannon "would make these grotesque comments so out of touch with reality and obviously so vindictive".

A controversial book about President Donald Trump's first year in the White House has Lake County libraries and bookstores struggling to keep up with demand.

In an interview with CBC News, he called Bannon a grand strategist "so he may very well have a plan".

It caused uproar for revealing White House secrets and accusing Trump of incompetency, but its cover blandly comprises a white backdrop, capitalised text in a mix of blue and red, and a picture of the president.

On Tuesday, Bannon was forced to step down as chairman of Breitbart News Network, less than a week after Bannon's explosive criticisms of Trump and his family were published in Wolff's book.

Wolff said he had sympathy for Mr Bannon.

"I think it's pretty clear, and Steve disavowed none of this, that he thought Don jnr was a fool", Wolff said.

Karen Bradley announced as UK's Northern Ireland Secretary as James Brokenshire resigns
The administration collapsed in January previous year after Sinn Fein pulled out over a scandal involving a renewable energy funding scheme.

The idea has always been a Trump favorite: during the 2016 campaign, he often said existing rules should be somehow strengthened to take on what he called the "fake media", though it is unclear how.

CNN has not independently verified all the assertions in Wolff's book.

"This book is filled with false and misleading accounts from individuals who have no access or influence with the White House", press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders wrote in a statement.

McNamara is representing Wolff and Henry Holt & Co. against Trump's attorney - Charles Harder - over the cease and desist order to halt the publication or further citation of "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House", Variety reports.

"I'm always amazed at the lengths people will go to, to lie for money and for power".

The president's lawyers tried to stop publication of the book, which only emboldened the publisher to move up the publication date. The first luxury is I don't have to go back again.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Donald Trump says the reviews are in: He puts on a "tremendous" meeting. "Why would I have written this book?" he said.

During his remarks Trump swung from praising his own meeting coverage to telling journalists that they were dependent on his presidency for ratings to threatening a "strong look" at libel laws.
