  • India considers revisiting $500 million missile deal with Israel

A case in point of Israel supporting India was when India wanted its candidate, justice Dalveer Bhandari, elected to the Hague-based International Court of Justice, Carmon said.

The problem for Israel is that other competitors, too, are willing to shift base to India to get a slice of the huge armaments market that India has become. The date and place of a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be agreed on in the near future, a source in the Israeli embassy in Moscow told TASS on Friday. "We can not always fulfil those requests and this is why we are two different countries", he told reporters here.

Netanyahu flies to India on Sunday where he's paying a reciprocal visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mostly to promote business ties.

In a statement issued on the visit, the Israeli ambassador Daniel Carmon said, "The Prime Minister's visit to India is the grand finale to the celebrations of 25 years of growing partnership between India and Israel".

"I think everybody can see that".

Last month, India raised many eyebrows at home when it voted for an Arab resolution criticising Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"The government approved an excellent budget today", Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

During his stay, he will also visit Gujarat and Mumbai.

Last April, Israel Aerospace Industries inked agreements amounting to $2 billion with India, including a $1.6 billion contract to deliver a medium-range surface-to-air missile defense system and a $400 million deal for a long-range surface-to-air missile system.

In November, the defence ministry had made a decision to retract from the process to acquire a batch of Spike missiles from Israeli firm Rafael Advanced Defence Systems.

He would be then participating in a dialogue at Hyderabad house which will also include a one-on-one discussion with Modi.

"Since we talk about democracies, similar values, similar challenges..., the relationship is so strong between both the countries that our feeling is (that) nothing can reverse it", he said.

Netanyahu will be leading a high-profile delegation comprising 130 businessmen from 102 Israeli companies drawn from areas like agriculture, water, cyber security, health care and security on his four day trip to India starting January 14. It is reported that he will be accompanied by the relatives of the Jewish priest who was killed along with his wife in the 26/11 attack in Mumbai.
