  • Nintendo Switch's Sales to Customers Are Over 13 Million Units; SNES Classic at 4 Million Units

"Because the Nintendo Switch launch was not timed to the holiday season, you can not make a simple comparison between platforms", said Nintendo honcho Tatsumi Kimishima during the presentation of these graphs.

As shown, from February onward we will be releasing a wide variety of new software titles one after the next.

NPD Analyst Mat Piscatella provided an update on just what kind of impact a game like Pokemon could have for Switch market share, which is now on course to do pretty well without it. That's mighty impressive. Nintendo has seemingly conquered the "chicken and egg" problem of launching a new game console. A three-month subscription will cost $8, while a monthly subscription would cost $4. In other words, in just ten months, Nintendo Switch has nearly certainly outsold the Wii U (Nintendo has not yet provided updated Wii U sales figures), which has been available since 2012.

In what should be a surprise to no one, Nintendo's $80 classic console - the Super NES Classic Edition - is a massive hit.

As reported earlier this week, in nine months the Switch has sold more than the Wii U did in more than four years, which is obviously good news for Nintendo but the question now is what do they do next?

In that sense, Nintendo stated the following: "The second year is important". Naturally, players will be able to play online competitively or cooperatively with compatible titles.

Part of the Switch's success can be attributed to its ability to attract non-gamers, and Kimishima said strong sales in 2018 would continue to depend on this.
