  • NASA Probe Captures Farthest Images Taken Away From Earth

Take a good, hard look at the photos you see above, because there is something truly astonishing about those pictures. As of this writing, it's the farthest image ever made from Earth.

New Horizons, a spacecraft sent by NASA in 2006 and the first aircraft to fly around Pluto, has just made history again.

09 de febrero de 2018, 13:00Washington, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) The US space agency (NASA) is now displaying images of two objects from the Kuiper Belt (KBO) taken by its New Horizons ship, 6, 120 million kilometers from our planet.

NASA's New Horizons spacecraft has captured the farthest images from Earth by a spacecraft and set a new record. That picture, the brainchild of the late physicist Carl Sagan, looked back at Earth from a distance of 3.75 billion miles. Another famous space probe, Voyager 1, was the previous record holder for over 27 years.

The new image snapped by New Horizons was released by NASA on Thursday, February 8.

These December 2017 false-color images of KBOs 2012 HZ84 (left) and 2012 HE85 are, for now, the farthest from Earth ever captured by a spacecraft. The story behind them, though, is one for history books.

Here's Where Lawmakers Are As The Shutdown Deadline Approaches
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says the deal isn't flawless , but it's better than no deal at all. This time around, the shutdown had little to do with immigration , at least at its outset.

New Horizons has observed several Kuiper Belt objects (KBOs) and dwarf planets at unique phase angles, as well as so-called Centaurs - former KBOs in unstable orbits that cross the orbits of the giant planets on the edge of our solar system.

During its mission, the spacecraft helped researchers answer basic questions about the surface properties, geology and interior makeup of these bodies. "The spacecraft also is making almost continuous measurements of the plasma, dust and neutral-gas environment along its path".

Most of the time, New Horizons is sleeping - hibernating, to save energy. In fact, the all we know about it has come from the Hubble Space Telescope (used to discover the object in 2014) and a comprehensive observation campaign last summer, in which the New Horizons team gathered data on MU69 as it passed in front of three stars.

The following is an excerpt from Wikipedia describing the New Horizons spacecraft.

"New Horizons has always been a mission of firsts - first to explore Pluto, first to explore the Kuiper Belt, fastest spacecraft ever launched". It is the fifth of five artificial objects to achieve the escape velocity that will allow them to leave the Solar System. During its voyage to the outer reaches of the solar system, the spacecraft usually stays in hibernation mode to conserve energy.
