Amazon, fearing competition, won't sell Nest products anymore

The decision from Amazon's retail team was reportedly relayed through a conference call late previous year and they were informed that the decision came from the top (and we assume it's CEO Jeff Bezos they were pertaining to).

According to a source familiar with the situation, Amazon's retail team did not specify who gave the order to stop selling Nest's future products but mentioned that the decision "came from the top".

Amazon will continue to sell the Nest products it still has in stock, but once the inventory is flogged, it won't be replenishing.

Asian shares lower as sentiments get dragged by Wall Street
Wednesday was another down day for the broad US markets with all three of the major exchanges closing lower on the day. Stocks are turning sharply lower in afternoon trading as talk of steep tariffs on steel and aluminum spook investors.

Online retailer Amazon has decided not to sell any of the new products from Google's smart home division Nest, once its current stock runs out, the media reported. Only time will tell how the feud between the two tech giants will play out.

Amazon has faithfully ignored to sell some Google-branded products such as Google Home voice assistant speaker and the company's Pixel smartphones.

You can still buy a range of Nest products over at Amazon UK - like this table bracket stand thermostat - but if Business Insider is on the nose with its reporting, that probably won't be the case for much longer. Amazon pursues to sell homogeneous products from August and other companies, but soon won't have to worry about advertising one of its main competitors on its own store. So things will probably get more awkward later on, as they will be competing in smart devices and computing platforms as well. The company debuted Amazon Key last fall, which is powered by a home security camera and smart lock that recognize delivery personnel and lets them enter a home to deliver a package. Presently several Nest products are handy with Prime shipping, but they're "fulfilled by Amazon" and literally being sold by other sellers. The banned products include the Nest Secure home system and the tremendously popular Nest thermostat. Smart home product sales are expected to reach $4.5 billion in 2018, according to the Consumer Technology Association.
