Confirmations by Microsoft about Windows 10 Getting New 'S Mode' Next Year

Microsoft is holding Windows Developer Day today, an event that it's been having twice a year as of late, shortly before each feature update for Windows 10.

Experts expect the Windows 10 S Mode to stick to the same 'philosophy.' Also, with the new mode, Microsoft will be able to push that philosophy on more Windows users as the OS will be available on most versions in the Windows 10 family. You can't install normal Windows programs on 10S, because the only software it can handle are UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps from the Windows store. Windows 10 S -now Windows 10 "S Mode"- limits users to installing apps only available on the Windows Store. He sees the new mode as a way of removing the hassle and guaranteeing the performance of Windows 10 for education or business use.

Windows 10 S was built to compete against Chrome OS in the education market, but it has not gathered much market share in the USA and Canada compared to Chrome OS, regular Windows devices and iPads.

MICROSOFT HAS confirmed rumours that its stripped-down UI will now be a "mode" rather than a separate operating system. It's possible we'll see more Windows 10 S hardware continue to trickle out in 2018, before Microsoft starts advertising an nearly identically named - but substantially different - product.

The choice to move to a Windows 10 S mode in their competing devices was expected by many, but it's also muddying the waters and making it more hard to tell which Windows PCs are meant to capture the attention of an education market that is now enamored with Chromebooks.

Some recent estimates suggest Chrome OS now owns about 60% of the U.S. education market in grades K-12.

In the realm of IT planning and management, businesses can use server logs and practically any other types of information gathered by their systems to inform AI-enabled applications that evaluate past patterns and help users make smarter technology decisions.

As is often the case, Microsoft Head of Hair, Joe Belfiore made the confirmation on Twitter.
