  • Mahatma Gandhi bust in Kannur

The vandalisation of statues of political and ideological figures across the country has found its latest victims - Mahatma Gandhi, and Dalit icon Dr BR Ambedkar.

Damage was caused to the Gandhi statue in front of Thaliparambu Taluk Office on Thursday.

According to reports, the man crawled up the statue and destroyed a spectacle and a garland. The police have launched an investigation into the case.

The incidents come a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned such acts of vandalism and spoke to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the issue.

Pa. sees 81 percent rise in ER visits for opioid overdoses
It also is increasing community outreach efforts to nursing homes to help address prescription opioid addiction among the elderly. Despite efforts to address the crisis , opioid overdoses in the USA continue to increase at a disturbing rate.

Local people claim they saw the man targeting the statue and a passerby even took a picture with his mobile phone but the man has not yet been identified as the photo is from a distance and does not show his face. Another disturbing instance of vandals overstepping their bounds was when some of them smeared red pain on the statue of BR Ambedkar, Wednesday night. The police are now on the lookout for the miscreants. Over the last three days, statues of Periyar and Syama Prasad Mookerjee were vandalised in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Miscreant tried to damage Gandhi statue in Kannur.

"Incidents of toppling of statues have been reported from certain parts of the country". This is another shocking incident of defacement of idols, that began after Lenin's statue was bulldozed in Tripura after BJP's win in the state.
