'Jessica Jones': The new season doubles down on hard-boiled feminism

As and when the action does arrive, it is always with a goal to show the inherent weakness of Jessica's resolve and emotions, juxtaposed with her strength, shown through a gaping hole in a wall, in a vehicle or in someone's face.

Jessica herself is still acting out and drinking away her demons, but now questioning her own identity and objective as she sees what IGH's victims turn out to be. (Minor spoilers ahead for Luke Cage.) Dr. Burstein gave Cage his powers via an experimental treatment to help his cells regenerate faster after he was seriously injured in a cage fight. I wouldn't abuse it, but it might come in handy.

Jessica won't think twice about a breakfast of Slim Jims and bourbon, and she's in and out of jail so often, she spends more time in handcuffs than Anastasia Steele. "I really think it's a stroke of genius". It turns out the experiments done to save her life augmented her strength, just like what happened to Jessica.

But The Defenders drew the fewest viewers of any of Netflix's Marvel shows a month out from its debut, leaving Netflix with little incentive to dilute Jessica Jones, one of its most successful Marvel ventures, by keeping her queued up among the other leads in its character ensemble. In fact, at one point, Simpson even attacks Trish and Jessica in an unhinged attempt to kill Kilgrave. She's recognizable on the street and the phrase "superhero vigilante" is bandied about like this is Daredevil Season 1 establishing Hell's Kitchen. It took her almost dying to get there, but understanding why she lashes out may save her in the end.

It's hard to believe that it was ever just going to be a one-off.

Jerry Brown: Trump 'Going to War Against the State of California'
Constitution "provides California with the right to decline to participate in civil immigration enforcement", Becerra said. The Department of Justice is seeking a preliminary injunction to block California from enforcing those laws.

Jessica Jones Season 2 has dropped on Netflix and, while it's a successful follow-up to the first season in a lot of ways, there are some issues with it. McTeer is already shaping up to be a classy addition, and she rescues the show from wisecracking its way around abandoned hospital corridors for too long.

After more than 15 months on hiatus, "Marvel's Jessica Jones" finally returns to Netflix this week. And throughout the first season, we slowly discover most of this is to avoid dealing with the memories of Kilgrave (a story told at the latter end of the Bendis/Gaydos series).

The first comic Jessica Jones appeared in was "Alias", Max Burbank, 55, told Chelsea Now by phone. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, the comic was originally designed to follow Jessica Drew-Spider-Woman-but Bendis decided instead to focus on Jones, who had once been a superhero but turned away from that life to focus on being a detective. She figures that this new guy must have something on the landlord to agree to bounce her even though he's known for years that she's a run a business out of her apartment. Plus, while she does have these incredible abilities, Jessica's best strength is her sleuth skills, which appear to get her further than being able to punch a hole in someone's chest. She isn't a murderer. If the character didn't have superpowers, it's doubtful that anyone but her closest friends would put up with her. Like Jessica said, all she sees now when she looks at Trish is the person who killed her mother. But Max calls her bluff, guessing that when push comes to shove, Trish won't want to expose herself as a celebrity victim.

While Kilgrave and Jessica were a powerful allegory for abusive relationships, their story was couched in a veneer of science fiction.
