A U.S. woman who shot her boyfriend dead in a YouTube prank gone wrong has been sent to prison for six months.
Monalisa Perez, a 20-year-old mother of two children, believed her boyfriend Pedro Ruiz would be shielded by a thick book as she shot him at close range last June in front of onlookers.
20-year-old Monalisa Perez hit the headlines back in June when she and partner Pedro Ruiz made a decision to film a risky stunt involving a gun that accidentally resulted in his death.
Perez was pregnant with their second time when Ruiz was killed. The clip was filmed by two cameras and the couple's three-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting.
"This comes from the heart, where you shot him", she said during Monalisa Perez's sentencing at the Norman County Courthouse.
By pleading guilty, she avoided a lengthy sentence.
"Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most unsafe videos ever", she tweeted.
Perez had been dating her boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz, for five years at the time of the incident. She is also banned from owning guns for life and is prohibited from profiting from the case. She added that it was Ruiz who had come up with the idea for the video and not her.
At the buzzer, Loyola upsets Miami in 64-62 thriller
Yet Loyola continued to chip away and with just over a minute left tied the game on a three pointer by Clayton Custer . With 44 seconds left in the game, Miami's Ja'Quan Newton made a tough step-back jumper to put the Hurricanes up two.
He showed her another book with a bullet hole on one side and no exit hole, as proof it was safe, police said.
Perez expressed her remorse through her attorney, Public Defender Eric Gudmundson, but didn't speak in court.
Members of Ruiz's family are expected to give statements to the court during sentencing before Judge Jeffrey Remick, the prosecutor said.
Monalisa Perez, 20, will serve 180 days in prison for killing boyfriend Pedro Ruiz in a YouTube stunt gone wrong.
Part of the sentence is that she is not allowed to financially gain from the video of Mr Ruiz's death.
Their YouTube channel, which is still live, consists of videos showing the couple doing various pranks and stunts.
"HIS idea not MINE", she said.
The couple's YouTube channel is still active and its videos have accumulated 5.3million views. Please hurry up, ' Perez told the 911 dispatcher in June 2017. The state has been experimenting with allowing judges to make the call, and The Forum joined with other news outlets in asking for access.
