Actress Cynthia Nixon says she will run for NY governor

Actress and liberal activist Cynthia Nixon, one of the stars of the hit television series "Sex and the City", announced on Monday she would run for governor of NY, challenging incumbent Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic nomination.
In 2004, Nixon accepted an Emmy award - the highest accolade in U.S. television - for her role as Miranda Hobbes from Trump, the fellow celebrity-turned-politician whose current presidency she publicly opposes.
Nixon describes herself as "a lifelong New Yorker and progressive activist who is running for governor to fight for a better, more equal New York". (She also has two children from a previous relationship.) The accompanying video talked about how she grew up in NYC with her single mother.
"How did we let this happen?"
Perhaps, most importantly to people who live in New York City, Nixon has promised to fix the subway (which she rides every day). "I love NY, I've never wanted to live anywhere else, but something has to change". "We want our government to work again, on health care, mass incarceration and fixing our broken subway".
The move confirmed growing speculation that Nixon meant to challenge incumbent Democratic state governor Andrew Cuomo, which went into overdrive last week when her wife, Christine Marinoni, stepped down from her job at the city's department of education.
Nixon has also traveled to Albany to push for same-sex marriage - which Cuomo successfully convinced the Legislature to approve in 2011.
In her video, Nixon does not mention Cuomo by name.
A Siena poll released Monday put Cuomo as a 66 to 19 percent favorite over Nixon.
"Something has to change", Nixon said in her campaign's launch video Monday.
Nixon, a longtime advocate of higher funding for public schools, ended months of speculation with an announcement Monday that she will challenge Cuomo for at least the Democratic Party line for governor.
The 51-year-old actress was among the many stars who helped host the "People's State of the Union", a public rally meant to counter President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address in January. Meanwhile, Kristin Davis (aka SATC's Charlotte York Goldenblatt) already tweeted her support of Nixon. She was appointed to the advisory board for the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio in 2014.
"I'm not nervous about whoever runs", Cuomo said last week.
Cuomo, the son of legendary New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, is making his bid for a third term. Two strategists with ties to de Blasio have joined Nixon's campaign, and Nixon's wife recently left her job as an education adviser in the mayor's administration.
Considered a potential Democratic presidential candidate for 2020, Cuomo is shored up by a bevvy of powerful supporters, but it remains unclear whether he will be badly damaged by the recent conviction of a close friend and aide for bribery. "Women have to lead and speak up", she said.
On the Republican side, Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and state Senator John DeFrancisco both plan runs. "We are sick of politicians who care more about power than they do about us".
She is seeking help through an online fundraiser to help pay off the legal fee against Trump to return the six-figure payment. Brent Blakely, who filed the action on behalf of Essential Consultants LLC and Trump, did not reply to a request for comment.
Wide receiver Michael Crabtree is drawing interest in the aftermath of the Oakland Raiders' decision to release him. Crabtree averaged almost 850 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his three seasons with the Raiders.
She denied it and added: "You do something, there's going to be a reaction, and trust me daddy, there's going to be a reaction". At that point, Swift began to project her image as being above the fray. "I love her, as a songwriter, as well".
People were not able to see them up close, as access to the prototypes is restricted. "They're all taking refuge". I will continue to zealously fight to defend our state laws and protect the public safety of all Californians.

After collecting 16.5 sacks during his first three seasons, he's mustered just 2.5 sacks since the 2016 campaign. Perhaps that means he'll be a difference-maker in demanding extra attention, but his numbers should rise, too.
