Three Arabs armed with knives and hand grenades entered Israel on Tuesday morning from the Gaza Strip and were arrested near the IDF Tse'elim base, about some 12 miles inside Israel.

"This was an incident that shouldn't have happened".

During a routine patrol of the southern Gaza border fence, soldiers detected footprints leading from the Strip into Israel.

The infiltration comes days before Palestinians are planning mass protests in Gaza along its border with Israel.

Israeli tanks have targeted Gaza for the second day in a row, as tensions on the border and Hamas military maneuvers take place.

Maj. Gen. (res.) Eyal Ben-Reuven, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, called for an investigation into the incident.

Hoping to avoid violent confrontations along the border, the Israeli air force on Sunday dropped leaflets around Gaza City warning residents not to participate in the demonstrations.

Manelis said the army would prevent protesters from crossing the fence on Friday.

Israeli ground forces also killed two Palestinian teenagers in cross-border fire.

According to local sources, the men attempted to damage Israeli equipment operating the underground barrier, which is being built to stop Palestinians from digging out of the strip through tunnels.
