Victor Cruz NFL Finally Got Catch Rule Right!!

  • Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Riggs runs in for a game winning touchdown against the New Orleans Saints during the second half of an NFL divisional football playoff game in Minneapolis Sunday Jan. 14 2018. The Vikings defeated the Saints

"It is a foul if a player lowers his head to initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent", the new rule says, according to the NFL.

"Whether it was the old rule, or this new rule", James told the Steelers' official website after NFL teams unanimously voted in favor of modifications to the catch rule for the 2018 season at the league's owners meetings in Orlando, Fla.

The new rule removes the element of time from the equation and also removes the language that a receiver must "complete the process of the catch through the ground", which led to plenty of controversial calls in recent years. The new rule says that a ball is deemed a reception when the player has control of the ball, two feet down - or another body part - and makes a football move.

"It got to us that we need to put objective standards as the third act - objective", McKay said.

If this were a league that has shown consistency and clarity when it comes to rule changes, perhaps the new legislation wouldn't be such a problem.

"As long as the officials are calling it fair throughout, week-to-week, game-to-game, team-to-team". The league will reportedly have a meeting with players and coaches to work through the new rule and teach techniques. "You can see so many different things that you can't see at full speed, the rule got a little complicated".

Tuesday, NFL Competition Committee Chairman Rich McKay announced any hit on which a player, offensive or defensive, leads with his helmet - using it as a weapon, will be a penalty. The new rule is far reaching and more significant than the targeting rule used in the NCAA.

Russian Mall Blaze Kills At Least 64 People, Including Children
Video shared online by Russian news outlets showed thick smoke rapidly filling the fourth floor as the fire began to spread. Kemerovo Regional Governor Aman Tuleyev has signed an order declaring mourning in the region from Tuesday to Thursday.

"It sticks here and then it goes there, but he never loses control".

In hopes to improve player safety the National Football League announced a rule change that will ban all plays on which a player lowers his head to initiate contact with his helmet. By ruling this play incomplete, the Cowboys turned the ball over on downs, and the Green Bay offense took care of the rest to eliminate Dallas.

The committee looked at dozens of plays dozens of times.

"The Ryan Shazier play is a play where he ducked his head and was injured", McKay said.

The owners approved the rule submitted by the competition committee that makes permanent the current rule in place that changes the spot of the next snap after a touchback resulting from a free kick to the 25-yard line.

About the only thing we know for sure is the impetus for why the National Football League is making this happen: player safety and the ancillary elements that go with it from a financial standpoint, such as lawsuits and erosion of the game's popularity among youth (and their parents) concerned about suffering brain trauma.
