French police have arrested a man who tried to run over a group of soldiers in south-eastern France.

French police have arrested a man suspected of attempting to ram his auto into soldiers jogging near their barracks in southeast France on Thursday, security sources said.

The troops of the 93rd Mountain Artillery Regiment, who were out on their morning jog outside their base in Varces-Allières-et-Risset, in the French Alps, had to jump into a ditch to avoid the pavement-mounting Peugeot-make vehicle, according to reports.

Colonel Benoît Brulon, spokesman for the police added: "Around 8.15am local time, he verbally threatened six or seven soldiers who were jogging and then insulted a second group of soldiers who were also out jogging".

Nobody was reportedly injured in the incident, while the driver of a black Peugeot vehicle escaped from the site, while manhunt is underway. "We don't know if it was an involuntary action, an act to try to scare the soldiers, or a deliberate gesture", he said.

France is on edge following the killing of four people in an ISIS-inspired rampage on March 23. No one was injured'.

India talks tough to China, says ready for any situation
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said on Sunday that India was "alert" and ready to deal with any "unforeseen situation" in Doklam.

The incident happened less than a week after the taking of hostages at a supermarket in the town of Trebes near Carcassonne in southern France.

Lakdim, armed with knives, a handgun and grenades according to Le Figaro, opened fire at a group of police officers jogging in the Carcassone region.

All hostages were later released apart from one woman.

Lakdim was shot dead by police.

France also suffered major attacks in Paris in November 2015 when IS jihadists killed 130 people at bars, restaurants, the Bataclan concert venue and the national stadium.
