NI Weather: Fine weekend but Easter Monday could bring sleet and snow

01 April, 2018, 02:20 | Author: Natasha Holloway
  • Expected accumulation from storm by Tuesday morning

This has sparked a yellow weather warning to be put in place across the region - although forecasters have said the flurries will turn lighter as the day progresses.

There is a slight chance some rural communities could become cut off.

Since 2000, April's weather has seen an average daily temperature of 51.5 degrees with precipitation averaging 2.64 inches.

According to the Met Office, the city and the surrounding areas are likely to experience the adverse conditions from 5pm on Easter Sunday until 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect overnight to 1 p.m. Saturday for northwestern and northern Wisconsin, including Ashland, Iron, Price, Vilas, Oneida, Forest, Florence, Taylor, Lincoln, and Langlade Counties, where the heaviest snowfall is expected.

Part of the problem is the cold front that pushed through yesterday isn't exiting quickly. At times early Saturday, a few snowflakes may mix in with the snow, but little to no accumulation is expected of the snow variety. Meteorologist Nick Carletta of the National Weather Service called these temperatures "much below normal" for this time of year.

When the rain today changes to the snow Friday
Thunderstorms are possible on Thursday night as a large band of torrential rain surges across north-east England. A High Wind Watch has been issued for winds 30-40 miles per hour and gusts up to 60 miles per hour or more.

A slack area of low pressure will continue to bring outbreaks of rain falling as sleet and snow across higher ground of Wales, northern England and Scotland. Rain is possible Monday night and Tuesday. Snow is expected after midnight, with low temperatures in the lower 20s. There will be chances of snow and rain Monday afternoon and evening, with snow possible Tuesday.

Heavy snow is possible for southern Scotland on the final day of the four-day long weekend.

Easter morning looks just fine.

Many drivers were begrudgingly reaching for their scrappers again during a frosty start on Thursday, March 29, and hoping for a more spring-like weekend. The high will be near 51 with a north wind of 9 miles per hour, the National Weather Service said. Most showers this morning have been in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri.

By Sunday night, we will be tracking another disturbance cutting by just to our south.
