However, these powerful processors only supported desktops.

Intel unveiled today new 8th Gen "Coffee Lake" processors for mobile PCs, including the first ever Core i9 processor for laptops.

Intel announced that Penryn (launched in 2007), Yorkfield (2007), Wolfdale (2007), Bloomfield (2008), Clarksfield (2009), Nehalem-based Jasper Forest (2010), and Intel Atom "SoFIA" (2015) will no longer receive the Spectre patches, as originally promised.

Also announced was the addition of eighth-generation chips to the business-centered vPro platform, which provides enhanced security and performance to Intel chips created to fulfill enterprise-level needs. They are manufactured using 14nm++ process technology delivering 41 percent more graphics performance during games.

Intel claims 29 percent overall performance boost compared to the seventh-generation Core i7 desktop processor, and 88 percent better performance for those looking to upgrade from a "three-year old" system. The company also announced that new laptops with Intel's 8th Gen Core i9, i7 and i5 chips will be coming later this year. This translates to a turbo frequency of up to 4.8 GHz. Find out all the key info about the new CPUs below.

At an event in Beijing, Intel revealed the first 8th generation Core i9 chip for use in laptops.

NI Weather: Fine weekend but Easter Monday could bring sleet and snow
Meteorologist Nick Carletta of the National Weather Service called these temperatures "much below normal" for this time of year. Since 2000, April's weather has seen an average daily temperature of 51.5 degrees with precipitation averaging 2.64 inches.

There are four new SKUs, all of which come with the same 28W TDP, support for dual-channel DDR4-2400 memory, Intel Iris Plus GPU with 128MB of eDRAM and Intel Optane Memory support.

Two H series processors and both M series Xeon CPUs are built on Intel's VPro technology.

Intel announced a series of new Coffee Lake desktop CPUs, too. They're not almost as exciting as the company's higher-end options, or even its low-powered ultraportable options, but they're still notable upgrades for average shoppers. The mobile Core i9 chip looks like the Xenon E-2186 which includes same clock speeds, core counts, thermal design and many more. It will feature six cores, 12 threads and a 4.8GHz max turbo speed. This adds integrated Gigabit Wi-Fi for a blazing-fast connection that is capable of being up to 2x faster than standard 2×2 802.11AC 80 MHz (867 Mbps). Intel also operates R&D centers in Haifa, Jerusalem, Petach Tikva and Yakum.

Along with these handsome new Coffee Lake chips, Intel added a support for Optane memory to both the eighth-generation mobile and desktop chips.

As is typically the case, the Core i9 on mobile is a very different beast than its desktop counterpart.
