Weightlifter suffers horror injury at Commonwealth Games

On Monday, the 40-year-old weightlifter dislocated her left elbow as she attempted a Games record 132kg for her last snatch lift in the 90kg+ final at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.

"The one saving grace in all of this is I'm not in any great pain at the moment".

Games officers had announced their service for Hubbard'therefore inclusion from case, despite the 40-year-old acquiring previously competed internationally over the men's lifting below the title Gavin Hubbard.

The Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive, David Grevemberg, has said that Hubbard had passed requirements.

But Hubbard has received widespread support - both from the locals that warmly applauded her entry onto the weightlifting floor, to several Kiwi sporting personalities calling for her to carry the New Zealand flag during next Sunday's closing ceremony.

The crowd had been supportive of Hubbard, who passed all requirements to make it into the Games and compete in the women's competition. "That's all she wants to do, come out and lift, have a good time and enjoy doing what we love to do", the English weightlifter told reporters after winning bronze.

"I saw the photo of her and it was very clear she enjoys a physical advantage which is not possible for born women to enjoy, " McGregor told the Daily Telegraph.

Wallwork had controversially claimed: "A man is a man and a woman is a woman and I know a lot of changes have gone through".

In order to compete, Hubbard has had to prove that her testosterone levels meet strict criteria - and her last tests indicated that she has less testosterone than a cis female.

They have not identified them, but Armin Laschet, the governor of North Rhine-Westphalia state said they included Dutch citizens. The German news agency dpa reports that police confirmed arrests in connection with the half-marathon but did not elaborate.

"People shouldn't be making comments and making her feel terrible for doing something she loves to do".

Prior to switching genders, Hubbard had competed as a male weightlifter for the New Zealand team.

Samoa's Feagaiga Stowers, 17, took gold on Australia's Gold Coast ahead of Nauru's Charisma Amoe-Tarrant.

Despite this, Hubbard put on another 3kg for a 130kg hoist for her next lift.
