Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for southern Ontario on Friday, ahead of a storm system that could leave the area covered in ice.

The freezing rain will give way to rain by Sunday evening.

However, CityNews Meteorologist Adam Stiles says this time the ice will accumulate in pellets.

More freezing rain is in the forecast for Saturday night and Sunday morning.

A moisture laden low pressure area over the Central Plains States will amble slowly towards the lower Great Lakes this weekend.

A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 5 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m.in the Southern Tier where total ice accumulations of a tenth of an inch to a quarter inch are expected.

A lull in precipitation is likely this evening with patchy freezing drizzle expected.

Driving conditions are expected to be unsafe on untreated roads Saturday and Sunday.
