Instead NCN was advised by a Fischer spokesperson to see Fischer's letter (in full below) insisting that Zuckerberg was ducking the privacy issue, when it comes to the "categories" of health, politics and religion: "I was troubled that you refused to answer my questions on this issue", wrote Fischer who added, "Your repeated attempts to undermine my usage of "categories" as a descriptor was particularly baffling, given that this verbiage has been used by others in discussing these matters". That data, which is not part of the packet that Facebook lets any user download, is becoming a bigger and bigger flashpoint for personal privacy regulations, and deserves more attention from our own government.

There are, however, other companies too that offer these types of services and get information from the apps and sites that use them.

In a blog post, Facebook product management director David Baser went over how the company gathers user data from other websites and apps, what they do with the data and what controls users have over this data. If Facebook did, it could be fined $40,000 per infraction. In its proxy, Facebook says it does "not consider Mr. Zuckerberg's overall security to be a perquisite for his benefit", but now discloses the costs as "all other" compensation in the company's proxy. He brushed off suggestions that Facebook has built a monopoly but didn't identify the company's competitors.

In a statement BusinessDay received, Facebook said the disclosure is to encourage people to manage the apps they use.

Although Zuckerberg didn't elaborate, the concept would be similar to what both video-streaming service Hulu and music-streaming service Spotify already do by offering a free version supported by ads or a commercial-free version that requires a subscription.

Testifying before the US Congress, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said his organisation was committed to ensure integrity of elections across the world, including India.

A new study detailing foreign influence on Facebook ahead of the 2016 election found that one-sixth of 122 "suspicious" advertisers who purchased issue and political ads on the platform were Russian trolls.

After Zuckerberg said he didn't know, Lujan enlightened him.

Facebook said it has partnered with BOOM, an independent digital journalism initiative certified through the International Fact-Checking Network, for a pilot in Karnataka. "It's been reported that Facebook has as many as 29,000 data points for an average Facebook user".

Flummoxed, Zuckerberg resorted to a common response.
