The Twins and their fellow AL Central rival Cleveland Indians are now overseas playing two regular season games in Puerto Rico.

Carmen Yulin Cruz says extra generators have been brought to the stadium, and there will be an additional police presence. Indians officials says a backup power source is in place if needed and the game is scheduled to be played.

Forty-seven Major League Baseball regular-season games were played in Puerto Rico prior to Tuesday's contest, but none had taken place since 2010.

The Twins played in Puerto Rico Tuesday.

The blackout hit Puerto Rico late Wednesday morning as the island has struggled with an unstable power grid almost seven months after Hurricane Maria hit.

Officials said restoring power to hospitals, airports, banking centers and water pumping systems was their priority. She said all emergency systems at Hiram Bithorn stadium are functioning and that tower lights and additional security will be placed at the stadium's parking lot.

Rivera said he worries that such serious power outages are still occurring as the new Atlantic hurricane season, which starts on June 1, approaches.

Just yesterday, the Puerto Rican power authority (PREPA) - or Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica (AEE) - boasted that 97 percent of customers had their power restored following Hurricane Maria. One of the lines was affected by a tree that fell during unrelated power restoration efforts elsewhere on the island. The island only has one electric company, and it was $9 billion in debt and utilizes old, outdated infrastructure and equipment.
