Tom Brady is probably going to be back under center for the New England Patriots in 2018.

The only issue is how do you extend a quarterback, who is now 40, for two years down the line?

Appearing on WEEI-FM's "Kirk & Callahan" show Wednesday morning, Schefter said while most people around him expect Brady will play next season, "There are a lot of people around him who want him to stop playing".

"I believe he's going to be there", another person who knows Brady told ESPN.

Tiger Roll favourite for National repeat
Everyone goes on about his size, but I think it's just all about his heart, he has just so much heart and leaves nothing behind".

Brady, although he turns 41 this August, always seemed likely to return.

Tom Brady is seeking a new contract before the upcoming season. "However, having said that, we're dealing with a human being". However, commentator Skip Bayless told Fox Sports 1's "Undisputed" that he is convinced Brady doesn't want to play for Belichick anymore.

Schefter's report comes after Brady chose not to attend the opening of New England's offseason program this week.

Let's get one thing out of the way off the bat: our money would be on Brady playing for the Patriots this year. The star tight end has also not committed to playing in 2018. It's not the first time he has missed part of the offseason program; it also happened in 2008, 2009 and 2010. While he didn't win his sixth Super Bowl, he was able to throw for over 500 yards in the game, as the Patriots losing wasn't his fault at all. The Patriots could draft their quarterback of the future in next week's draft, with Brady apparently touting Heisman Trophy victor Lamar Jackson. This comes as other Patriots rumors suggest Rob Gronkowski could retire amid ongoing tensions with head coach Bill Belichick.
