Meek Mill in First Interview Since Release: "I Don't Feel Free"

  • Meek Mill expected to attend 76ers game after prison release

Mill was seen at last night's Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat game, where he even rang the bell.

The rapper described his last five months in prison as "a nightmare" and said numerous "prayers visits, calls, letters, and rallies" helped him stay "positive".

Nevertheless, on Wednesday (April 25) Brian McMonagle, one of Mill's attorneys, said Meek's legal team will seek to have Brinkley removed from the case because of her refusal to grant Mill a new trial.

His lawyers announced they were going to appeal, claiming he was being unfairly punished and that Meek Mill had turned his life around and was now a role model to others in a similar position.

Meek Mill's attorney, Joe Tacopina, said on Tuesday that the 30-year-old rapper had been released from a jail near Philadelphia.

"When he was in jail, I went to visit him and he wasn't feeling good".

"Although I'm blessed to have the resources to fight this unjust situation, I understand that many people of color across the country don't have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues", Mill said in a statement shortly before his release.

Beyonce, Jay-Z and comedian Kevin Hart were part of a campaign to free him.

Rubin called in a helicopter, which picked Mill up outside the state prison in Chester, Pennsylvania, and delivered him to a black Chevrolet, which shuttled the group to Wells Fargo Center.

"Just having someone that looks out for us, all of us here, it would just mean a lot for him to be back in Philly, in the city of Philadelphia with the fans, especially with a game like that tonight", Simmons said.

Bridge said the problem of corrupt officers is far-reaching, with almost 30 others found by the district attorney's office to have credibility issues, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Brinkley most recently denied Mill bail and upheld the sentence.

He said he would focus his attention on getting his convictions overturned, and that he looks forward to resuming his music career. "You could tell he was trying to hold on".

"For him to come to this type of game".

Mill, a South Philadelphia native, had attended Sixers games regularly before going to prison. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and retired boxing great Bernard Hopkins sat near Hart and Mill, and Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf joined them in the second half.

Many of Meek Mill's supporters have argued that his case is a testament to the issues present in the criminal justice system. Mill's lawyers spent months battling to get Mill freed on bail after he was sentenced to two to four years in prison for probation violations.

"It's really bad. I know some of our players in the National Football League have talked about this".
