  • Judge faces key choice in Michael Cohen case

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford says that the payment was meant to keep her silent about an affair she says she had with Trump more than a decade ago.

Asked how much legal work Mr Cohen did for him, Trump said: "As a percentage of my overall legal work, a tiny, tiny little fraction".

The special master would be an outside third party who would initially review the documents seized during the FBI's raids and determine whether something falls under protected attorney-client privilege and what prosecutors could use against Cohen.

At this point, co-host Steve Doocy interrupted him. He has got a business.

Is this what President Trump throwing you under the bus sounds like?

"Another gift from the heavens in this case", Avenatti said.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe", Daniels's attorney called that a "hugely damaging admission".

Trump made another surprising statement later in the interview, admitting that he had in fact stayed overnight in a Moscow hotel in 2013.

Mnuchin to visit China to discuss trade issues
And on Tuesday Trump described his relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping as "excellent". Mnuchin has expressed optimism that the countries could avoid a trade war.

Mr. Trump also touched on former FBI Director James B. Comey, accusing him of leaking classified information and inaccurately recounting their interactions. "I don't see any legal implications" for Trump. "I never said I left immediately".

Avenatti believes Trump's comments improve the chances he'll be able to dispose the president under oath in regards to the case.

Here's Trump ranting about the fake news media while the Fox & Friends desperately try to get him to talk about something else. How would you grade your presidency?

Mr Trump once again decried the "witch hunt" in Washington signified by Mueller's probe. "But I'm not involved and I've been told I'm not involved". Later in the interview, he added, "But pretty soon I won't".

The president also took swipes at the media's coverage of his North Korean policy - media bashing was a recurring theme of his 30-minute interview - saying that Mr Kim has made numerous concessions on his nuclear programme, while the U.S. hasn't "given up anything".

The interview lasted about 30 minutes. He has acknowledged that the Justice Department's inspector general, which has been investigating the FBI's actions during the Hillary Clinton email probe, was examining whether Comey had complied with Federal Bureau of Investigation policy in how he produced and stored the memos.

"The president is bunkered down... nearly in hiding, avoiding the media", CNN Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter said Thursday morning.

The revelation, which came after Cohen asserted his Fifth Amendment rights in the matter, was just one snippet of a rambling, half-hour long phone interview on "Fox & Friends", during which the President railed against the Federal Bureau of Investigation and his own Justice Department, rehashed issues involving Hillary Clinton during the presidential campaign and addressed plans for a summit with the North Korean leader. "Our client will make himself available, as needed, to aid in our privilege review on his behalf", Trump's lawyers wrote.
