  • Pompeo insists on Gulf unity in face of Qatar to confront Iran

"What the USA secretary of state has said about the Islamic Republic of Iran's role and presence in some regional countries is a repetition of empty and baseless claims", Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi was quoted as saying by state media outlet PressTV.

Iran's supreme leader accused the United States of trying to widen a "regional crisis" by provoking Tehran's rival Saudi Arabia to confront the Islamic Republic, state TV reported on Monday, Reuters reported.

"Some countries in the region should know", Khamenei said, "if they face the Islamic Republic, they will certainly lose".

Khamenei stressed that the U.S. forces should leave the Middle East as they are the cause of insecurity in the region.

He also said that Iran disturbs the security of the region through arming the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Even though family members have stakes in how that information gets shared, they typically aren't involved in the consent process. Prosecutors say Joseph DeAngelo carried out his most violent crimes in the months after he was sacked for shoplifting in 1979.

In remarks broadcast on state television, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reiterated longstanding calls for the United States to "leave" the Middle East, which he called Iran's home, and said any power seeking to challenge Iran would be defeated.

Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of Islam and does not officially recognize Israel.

His comments to Tehran workers and entrepreneurs came a day after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in Riyadh, urged unity among Persian Gulf countries in confronting Iran.

After airstrikes against military bases in Syria on April 30, Iranian sources denied that any of its soldiers were killed in the attack.

Pompeo met earlier with Saudi King Salman for about 15 minutes before heading directly to Israel, Iran's arch-enemy, for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. If Trump reneges on the deal and reapplies the sanctions lifted in exchange for Iran reducing its nuclear program, the United States would once again apply sanctions against many foreign companies doing business with Iran since the deal took effect.
