Lion park owner mauled by lion recovering in hospital

  • The 90 second video begins with the lions prowling around the perimeter wall of its enclosure

The lion came pouncing upon Hodge who tried making a run to the gate, but he was grabbed by the lion's paws before he could escape.

The video shows Mr Hodge enter the lion enclosure and try to run away from the lion as it approaches him from behind.

Nearly instantly the big cat spots the elderly man, believed to be the owner of the park, and gives chase.

The big cat is thought to have been put down in the wake of the grisly attack.

The 67-year-old man mauled by a huge male lion in South Africa is the wildlife park's British owner, it has been revealed.

Mike Hodge's decision to get up, close and personal with a lion, dubbed as the king of jungle turned into a nightmarish experience.

Onlookers can be heard screaming for help as the lion swings at Hodge, who then appears motionless at that point.

A friend of Mr Hodge told The Sun the sanctuary owner entered the lion compound to investigate a odd smell. He was rushed to the Mediclinic Hospital just three miles away from the park, where he remains in intensive care.

Crude Oil Holds Above $68
Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Thursday that there's been no decision on the nuclear deal. Total volume traded was less than 1% below the 100-day average.

Hodge, who left the United Kingdom for South Africa with his wife Chrissy in 1999, is believed to have suffered neck and jaw injuries stemming from the altercation.

He and wife Chrissy moved to South Africa to open the sanctuary in 2003.

"He is no fool around lions and knows how to interact with them but clearly something went wrong".

The video sparked debate on social media, with some criticizing Hodge for entering the enclosure.

Debbie Wagner said: "So sad that the lion is only doing what comes naturally to him".

The lion drags the man farther into the enclosure, into some bushes and onlookers scream for help.

Whatever be the noble thought of the man, he found himself under attack from the predator who had nearly gone for the kill.
