Speaking in San Jose, California, at the F8 gathering of software developers, tech folks and others, Zuckerberg said to cheers that the company is re-opening app reviews, the process that gets new and updated apps on its services. The massive hack prompted new questions about privacy levels on the platform, incited a #DeleteFacebook movement by some users and sent Zuckerberg to the Capitol to testify for hours in front of members of Congress.

The founder of the network has told that will make to increase security. Facebook executives - including Zuckerberg - recently weathered hours-long testimony to the United States Congress and British Parliament, along with worldwide media pressure over its data privacy practices.

Facebook's dating service will be opt-in and Mr Zuckerberg was keen to stress it had been built with privacy and security in mind from the start, with the company continuing to face worldwide scrutiny over the mass harvesting of personal data for use by Cambridge Analytica.

In April, however, the data scandal involving Cambridge Analytica erupted, causing a public outcry and prompting Facebook to promise to go even further.

With that pithy, offhand line, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg addressed the elephant in the room at Facebook's annual developer gathering, F8. In April, Facebook limited the amount of information third-party developers can collect from users without Facebook's express approval within its application programming interfaces.

The company is also introducing a "Clear History" tool that lets users delete the information the social network has on them from websites and apps that used Facebook's ads and analytics tools.

Though the feature is optional for all Facebook users and contains some of the same basic semi-anonymizing protections as most other dating apps (e.g. first name only, no direct link to profile, a private messaging system, etc.), it still somehow manages to be a privacy nightmare.

Zuckerberg also touted Facebook's new $199 virtual reality device, called the Oculus Go, saying everyone in attendance would get one for free. Visit MarketWatch.com for more information on this news.

"We were slow to identify Russian election interference", said Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg said the dating features are coming soon, but did not elaborate. Other new features coming to Instagram include augmented reality overlays from developers, like amusing mustaches and hats, and new ways for third-party apps to have videos post directly to stories on Instagram and Facebook.

But Zuckerberg suggested that Facebook would not slow down and wouldn't distance itself from developers as it prioritizes data privacy.

United Kingdom lawmakers are well and truly fed up with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and have ordered him to appear for parliamentary questioning or face a formal summons the next time he sets foot on British territory. You can laugh together and cry together.
