Nintendo Confirms That Virtual Console Will NOT Be Coming To Switch

  • Nintendo Switch Online services detailed

Virtual Console will still be supported on Wii U, there are the retro mini NES and SNES consoles released by Nintendo, and the company will launch Nintendo Switch Online in September. There's some good news and some bad news.

At launch, 20 classic NES games will be available to play and Nintendo says more will be added on "a regular basis".

According to a press release, players can purchase one month of access to Nintendo Switch Online for $3.99.

Nintendo Switch users are about to get a new update that will bring fan-requested features and changes to the system. At present, Nintendo's wording ("all members of the group will have access to Nintendo Switch Online") implies that we will. There's still no sign of a proper Virtual Console but the titles include Soccer, Tennis, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, Dr. Mario, The Legend Of Zelda, and Super Mario Bros. 3. Nintendo is also offering its own version of Sony PlayStation's "Share Play", by allowing friends to watch each other play single-player games online, and even "pass the controller".

Unemployment drops to 3.9 percent in April
The optics of a 3.9% unemployment rate (i.e., breaking through the 4.0% barrier) carry that perception an important step further. While average hourly earnings have suggested only a gradual increase in wage inflation, other measures have been more robust.

That's about it for now, but between pricing, classic games and the ability to cloud save (yowza!), Nintendo appears to be taking its online game to another level. It's possible that games for other consoles like the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 will be added to the collection, though that remains unconfirmed.

The more important features, though, are the cloud saves, which means we'll be able to save our games online for access anywhere. So while free is always nearly preferred, it's not like Nintendo Switch Online will break the bank. "As expected, the service will be priced at $20 per month, though "$4 for One Month" and "$8 for Three Months" plans will also be available. Stay wired for even more details as we wait for the service to launch in September.

Finally, Nintendo has now officially unveiled details of the Nintendo Switch Online service, including an official launch date; although Nintendo is revealing prices and features now, it also confirmed the service won't be going live until September 2018.

A family option is also available for $34.99 and 12 months.
