New York's former mayor Rudy Guiliani doubles down for Trump

  • Giuliani says he is joining Trump's legal team to help bring Mueller probe to a conclusion

Giuliani, however, has since pushed back, according to MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace, who said she spoke to him over the phone before her Thursday afternoon show. Amid questions of campaign finance regulations and former Trump attorney Michael Cohen's alleged payment of $130,0000 to Stormy Daniels, Giuliani told Sean Hannity in a May 2nd Fox News interview, "That was money that was paid by his lawyer, the way I would do, out of his law firm funds".

The New York Times inquired with Greenberg Traurig - where Giulaini was a partner, but took leave from to represent Trump - about those comments early this week. He's clearly itching to do more TV hits.

Giuliani appeared in a Broward County courtroom defending a woman who was in a auto crash in 2016 who was accused of fraudulently purchasing vehicle insurance just minutes after the accident and them providing false and misleading information to the insurance company, CNN reported.

But Giuliani, who's the latest addition to Trump's legal team, wouldn't have any of it. Richard Rosenbaum, the firm's executive chairman, said Giuliani's resignation went into effect on Wednesday.

"What they're really trying to do is trap him into perjury, and we're not suckers", Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor, said during another Fox News interview. Cohen, he added, "would take care of things like this like I take care of this with my clients".

Not so fast, said the law firm.

Among villages affected are those in the farmlands of Nyakinyua, Endao, and Arutani where hundreds of people were displaced. Military helicopters and personnel have for the past week been deployed to rescue people marooned by the flooding .

"We can not speak for Mr. Giuliani with respect to what was intended by his remarks", Greenberg managing director Jill Perry told The New York Times. "Speaking for ourselves, we would not condone payments of the nature alleged to have been made or otherwise without the knowledge and direction of a client".

Certainly, the appointment of Giuliani and a wider personnel change in Trump's legal team have led to a shift to a more aggressive, confrontational approach to the Mueller investigation, raising the prospect that the president might resurrect his threat to fire the investigator, or his boss, deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein.

On the Mueller front, Giuliani's recent spin is making as little sense as his hush-money explanations.

Now he's claiming the whole thing could drag out for months. "I think he's going to get himself in serious trouble".

In truth, Mueller's attorneys have been pressing for an interview since late previous year.
