Zarif is scheduled to meet the British, French and German foreign ministers on May 15 in Brussels.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif talks to the media as he leaves after a meeting with European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini at the EU Council in Brussels, Belgium, May 15, 2018.

But European diplomats briefed on the Brussels meeting acknowledged that the EU support, however honest, risked looking hollow after Trump last week reimposed an array of wide sanctions on the Islamic Republic that will hit European companies investing in Iran.

Analysts have suggested Russian Federation could benefit economically from the United States pull-out, as it is less exposed to the consequences of renewed sanctions than Europe.

China has maintained investment and trade relations with Iran, even under the economic sanctions from Western nations before the nuclear deal.

Zarif is scheduled to talk with Russian Federation on Monday about the nuclear deal.

Zarif later told a joint news conference with Lavrov that "the final aim of these negotiations is to seek assurances that the interests of the Iranian nation will be safeguarded".

Beijing has expressed regret over Trump's decision to withdraw from the 2015 agreement and says it remains committed to the pact.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday, " Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said withdrawing from the 2015 accord wasn't aimed at Europeans, but he didn't rule out the U.S. imposing sanctions on entities that continue to do business with Iran, even as efforts continue to strike a new deal.

He predicted that as a result of the bill's passage, "countless young people... will be stigmatized by state-sanctioned hate". Colyer, will not follow Oklahoma's example and will put the needs of the child first.

On Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington still wants to work with Europe to counter Iran's "malign behavior" and was working hard to thrash out a more wide-ranging deal with its European partners.

In Beijing on Sunday, Zarif said he was hopeful of forging a "clear future design" for the deal to save it from collapse, after US President Donald Trump withdrew from it on Tuesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said Wednesday that China would "carry on the normal and transparent pragmatic cooperation with Iran".

The sanctions will target critical sectors of Iran's economy, including petrochemicals, energy and finance. If the USA punishes European companies for doing business with Iran, foreign companies will likely walk away from Iran. Then he left Moscow for Brussels where he is slated to meet with the foreign ministers of UK, Germany, and France as well as the EU High Representative Mogherini.

The White House also has bluntly warned Iran of unspecified consequences should it resume nuclear activities prohibited under the agreement.

A number of voices in Iran have suggested the deal is unlikely to survive.

The Trump administration portrayed its rejection of the nuclear agreement as a response, in part, to Tehran's interventions in the Middle East, underpinning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's tough line towards Iran.

Top Iranian officials, including Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani, have said Europeans must give the required guarantees in order for Tehran to stay in the deal. "We don't have much to threaten the Americans".
