  • Harvey Weinstein Turns Himself in to Police to Face Sex Crime Charge in NYC

"The NYPD thanks these courageous survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice", the police department said.

Weinstein, 66, surrendered Friday at the New York City Police Department's 1st Precinct in Lower Manhattan.

His lawyer Benjamin Brafman said outside court that Weinstein meant to plead not guilty to the charges. "We intend to move very quickly to dismiss these charges", Ben Brafman said.

This case may be different, especially if Weinstein's financials and emails point to his guilt.

He carried thick books under his right arm, including what appeared to be biographies of the Broadway musical duo of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and Elia Kazan, the director of such classic Hollywood films as "On the Waterfront" and "A Streetcar Named Desire".

Per a statement from the New York Police Department, Weinstein was "arrested, processed and charged with Rape Criminal Sex Act, Sex Abuse and Sexual Misconduct" for incidents which involved two different women.

After having his mugshots and fingerprints taken, he was escorted out in handcuffs and driven to court in the back of a smart SUV.

As part of a bail package negotiated in advance, he will put up $1 million in cash and will agree to wear a monitoring device.

Vance made the decision even though he had a covert police recording of Weinstein telling Gutierrez he would not do it again.

Harvey Weinstein surrenders to authorities on May 25, 2018, in NY.

Weinstein's arraignment came two days after Palmer dropped a new single, "Mr. Weinstein Will See You Now", a searing critique of the once-powerful producer who's faced a wave a sexual harassment and assault allegations from dozens of women.

"They couldn't get a conviction", he said.

Nassar victims, Michigan State reach $500M settlement
Now the New York Times reports that Michigan State has reached a half-a-billion dollar settlement with Nassar victims. Part of the settlement includes setting aside $75 million in the event of future lawsuits regarding Nassar's abuse.

As we reported, Weinstein will turn himself in today on state sexual assault charges.

"I would rather be ready for that kind of coverage and his trial, than just coverage of him golfing in Scottsdale, so I will be ready for it", she said. Since the allegations broke past year, more than 80 women have come forward to share their stories of abuse at the hands of one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. The New York judge set Weinstein's first court date for July.

In a statement to FRONTLINE, Weinstein denied the attempted rape allegation and said that "Ms. Perkins asked for money instead of reporting her claims to the authorities".

Mr. Weinstein reigned as one of Hollywood's top producers, known as much for his bullying and aggression as for his cinematic success. One of Brafman's past clients, former International Monetary Fund boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn, ultimately escaped criminal prosecution for alleged sexual assault in 2011.

London's Metropolitan Police have also said they are investigating an allegation of sexual assault against Weinstein, while prosecutors in Los Angeles said in February they were reviewing three accusations of sexual assault against him.

Weinstein will be charged over an allegation by at least one accuser, Lucia Evans, a former aspiring actress.

A grand jury has been hearing evidence in the case for weeks.

Weinstein's lawyer said in a May court filing that federal prosecutors in NY had opened a separate criminal investigation into the allegations. That investigation is in its preliminary stages.

"Weinstein's arrest, for the women who have accused him and others like them around the world, I'm sure feels like a moment of catharsis and it should serve as a cautionary tale for others like (Morgan) Freeman and every day people who toe the line between unacceptable and criminal behaviour". Several actresses and models accused him of criminal sexual assaults, but numerous encounters happened too long ago for any prosecution.

Some of Weinstein's victims were speaking out today, with Rose McGowan appearing on Good Morning America today, revealing that she felt "shocked" and admitting that, "I didn't think I would see the day that he would have handcuffs on him".

Evans confirmed to The New Yorker that she was pressing charges.
