The downpours could dampen Memorial Day, the unofficial start of the summer tourist season along Gulf beaches.

Alberto is expected to hold its current strength. but very little additional strengthening is likely before coming ashore across the USA east central Gulf coast.

On Monday, Alberto was off the coast of Florida, moving north towards Tennessee.

A tropical storm warning is in effect from the Suwannee River to the Mississippi-Alabama border.

A storm surge watch is in effect for coastal Citrus and Levy counties.

The system is expected to slowly intensify today and Memorial Day and will likely consolidate into a tropical storm at some point before making landfall. It will continue to move north and then northwest heading towards the northern Gulf coast. Landfall along the panhandle is possible Monday afternoon.

Alberto had picked up strength as it headed north through the Gulf of Mexico, bringing with it the warning of life-threatening inundation, said the Miami-based hurricane centre.

Alabama and MS have activated their National Guards in preparation for Subtropical Storm Alberto, which is expected to make Landfall in Florida on Monday.

It appears Louisiana is in the clear when it comes to the heavier amount of rainfall from Subtropical Storm Alberto, according to the National... From Tuesday through Saturday an additional inch is expected in the area.

Governor Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency for the area rebuilding from a devastating flood about two years ago that killed two people and damaged dozens of buildings.

Strong to severe storms will also be possible embedded in the rain on Sunday.

While the heavy rains could produce flooding, widespread flooding does not appear likely, but we are expecting 2-4 inches of rain areawide with areas of East Alabama possibly seeing up to six inches with possibly higher totals in isolated areas.

Cuba maintained its tropical storm watch for the province of Pinar del Rio, while Mexico cancelled its watch for the resort-dotted coast of the Yucatan peninsula, where the storm brought heavy rain.

Boating conditions remain risky through Memorial day. Due to the scattered variety, not all areas will see the storms. West Palm Beach, which experienced its 15th straight day of rain on Saturday, got 1.14 inches of rain on Friday, breaking the record of 1.08 inches for Friday that was set on May 25, 1972.

There is a moderate risk for rip currents for the coastal areas of the Lowcountry through Sunday night.
