Dawn Sturgess, 44, succumbed to her injuries in a hospital in Salisbury, according to the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom. Five hours after her collapse, police said, an ambulance was called back to the same address for Rowley, who also fell ill and was taken to the hospital.
Further tests of samples from Sturgess and the man showed they were exposed to the nerve agent after touching a contaminated item with their hands, police said on Sunday.
Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, Britain's top anti-terrorism police officer, said the death "has only served to strengthen our resolve" to find those responsible.
They were believed to have become exposed to Novichok by handling a container, and a link to the Salisbury attack in March is a main line of investigation.
The British defence lab determined earlier that Novichok, a type of nerve agent developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War, was used on Sergei Skripal, a former Russian intelligence officer once convicted in his homeland of spying for Britain.
Russian Federation has reportedly denied involvement in both incidents.
British PM Theresa May has expressed outrage over the death of Dawn Sturgess.
The Met said the murder inquiry is being led by the Counter Terrorism Policing Network and around 100 detectives are working "round the clock" alongside colleagues from Wiltshire police. The hospital's medical director, Dr. Christine Blanshard, said the staff "worked tirelessly to save Dawn".
The poisoning of the Skripals, both of whom spent weeks in hospital before being discharged, was blamed by the United Kingdom government on Russian Federation.
Confirmation from authorities Wednesday that two British citizens were exposed to Novichok shook residents around Salisbury, who thought a months-long cleanup had removed any threat from the powerful nerve agent.
Police said the investigation "into the attempted murders of the Skripals is ongoing as detectives continue to assess all the evidence available".
"We are not in a position to say whether the nerve agent was from the same batch that the Skripals were exposed to".
He said: "Ms Sturgess was an innocent member of the public who should have been able to go about her daily life without becoming an unwilling victim in such an unprecedented, international, incident".
Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned by a nerve agent in March. Police said there is no evidence that either Sturgess or Rowley visited any of the sites where the Skripals may have been poisoned.
