Austin Texas --(Ammoland.com)- On the heels of the Department of Justice ruling that allows Defense Distributed to release their CAD and CNC files on the internet for the 3D printing of firearms, Defense Distributed received notice from Los Angeles and New Jersey threatening to sue their company if they released the 3D ghost gun files.

The blueprints are set to go online on Wednesday, following a June settlement between the US government and Texas-based Defense Distributed that allows the company to legally publish the designs.

1,000 people already downloaded 3D plans for AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifles by Sunday.

"The harm to Pennsylvanians would have been immediate and irreversible", Shapiro said in a statement.

They said they'll be discussing the dangers of the 3D printed guns and the legislation to address it. With those instructions, anyone with a 3D printer will be able to manufacture their own guns, without completing the background checks or meeting other requirements mandated by state laws.

Joining the suit were Democratic attorneys general in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Maryland, New York and the District of Columbia.

Before Sunday's hearing, the company, Defense Distributed, had promised that on August 1, "the age of the downloadable gun formally begins". "We will not be silenced", Wilson posted on Twitter.

Wilson had sued the U.S. government in 2015 after being ordered by State Department officials to take down a series of designs he posted for a 3-D printed pistol, dubbed "The Liberator".

Critics have blasted the settlement, saying it threatens public safety and national security by opening the door for the production of unregulated and untraceable firearms. "It takes a fair bit of work to get something to be functional", said Mike Crumling.

Gun control proponents and state officials are racing the clock to try to block blueprints to make guns from 3D printers from going online Wednesday.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Seattle.

Files showing how to replicate the process were immediately made available on the Defense Distributed website and downloaded hundreds of thousands of times.

"Two federal courts agreed with the federal government and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the case, instead of continuing to defend the lawsuit that they were winning at every stage... the Trump administration abruptly reversed course", Ferguson said.

The U.S. State Department told him he was violating the law, so in 2015 Wilson sued the feds with the help of the Second Amendment Foundation.

But several efforts to stymie Defense Distributed have hit roadblocks. "Without any checking, because all you do is go online, buy the kit, and you can make it".

Last week, a federal judge in Texas denied, on procedural grounds, an emergency motion for a temporary restraining order against the company filed by three groups: Everytown for Gun Safety, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
