  • UN peacekeepers return after 4 years to Israel-occupied Golan Heights near Syria

On Monday, the pro-Assad coalition in Syria finally finished off the last pockets of Islamist resistance along the Israeli border on the Golan Heights after a six-week-long campaign which included the "liberation" of the Daraa and Kuneitra provinces in southwest Syria.

The Israeli air force late Wednesday struck the militants as they crossed into Israeli-controlled territory with weapons, military officials said.

Israel seized 1,200 sq km of the Golan Heights from Syria in the Six-Day War of 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognized by the global community.

The move comes as Russian Federation continues to become more involved in Middle Eastern affairs after its military backing of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The BBC's Middle East correspondent, Tom Bateman, who is in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, says that despite the infiltration, Israel sees Iranian forces loyal to President Assad as the biggest threat from inside Syria.

Russian Federation demanded the immediate access by global humanitarian entities to the Rukban refugee camp, where it is suspected that the Pentagon carries out recruitment work among civilians to make up radical groups.

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon, in an interview published Sunday, told the Kochs to "shut up and get with the program". Trump asserted Tuesday night at a rally in Tampa, Florida, that he's the most popular person in the Republican Party.

Russian Federation announced Thursday that it would deploy military police and place monitoring posts on the Golan Heights to prevent further confrontations.

Lieberman reiterated Israel's demand that Iran not set up military bases against it in Syria, nor that Syria be used to smuggle arms to Hezbollah guerrillas in neighbouring Lebanon.

During their summit in Helsinki, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump said they were exploring ways to protect Israel from the war in Syria. He said a preliminary assessment was that the infiltrators were Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants.

Russia's military police will now patrol the Israeli-Syrian border. Russian Federation on Wednesday said that Iran had withdrawn its heavy weaponry to about 50 miles from the border, a measure Israeli officials said was inadequate.

In Amman, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the Syrian government has not officially requested the opening of the Syria-Jordan border after government forces recaptured its side of a crossing from rebels last month.
