"I mean it really is a fulfillment of the pledge that Chairman Kim made to President Trump in Singapore", he said.

WASHINGTON-President Trump received a new letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the White House said on Thursday in the latest public display of diplomacy between the two countries.

Sanders later told reporters that there are now no plans for a second summit.

"Today, they are known but to God", said Pence, whose father fought in the Korean War.

The Commander-in-Chief praised Kim's decision to return the remains just hours after Vice President Pence received the war heroes at a ceremony in Hawaii; saying he appreciates the regime's "kind action".

McKeague said North Korea did not receive any payment for the transfer this week.

The remains were initially transferred to United Nations control on Tuesday in Osan, South Korea before being sent to Hawaii, where Vice President Mike Pence received the 55 cases now draped in the American flag.

While there have been small signs of progress since the summit, news reports indicate Pyongyang is continuing to build rockets and there have been concerns that the enforcement of United Nations sanctions on the North is being relaxed by some member states.

The U.S. ambassador also expressed skepticism regarding North Korea's dismantling of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site and the missile site at Tongchang-ri.

More than 7,700 US troops remain unaccounted for from the Korea War.

Experts say that the painstaking identification process could take anywhere between days to decades to complete.

The United States is preparing to analyze and identify remains of presumed USA war dead that North Korea handed over in 55 boxes last week, the largest number of boxes of remains Pyongyang has returned at any one time since the modern process began in the 1990s.

Speaking Friday before he attends an Asian security forum with North Korea's foreign minister, Pompeo told reporters in Singapore there was "still a ways to go before" achieving the goal of ridding the North of its nuclear weapons.

The Washington Post on Tuesday reported that USA intelligence officials suspect that North Korea is continuing to build new missiles in the same research facility that manufactured the country's ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.

Fifty-five boxes of remains arrived in Hawaii this week, and the Department of Defense said the remains were "consistent" with Americans killed in the war.

Air Force General John Hyten, who as commander of the U.S. Strategic Command oversees America's nuclear forces, said North Korea had clearly demonstrated its commitment to halt flight-testing missiles since none had launched since November.

"I won't say anything about what they're doing on the ground because that would cause me to reveal intelligence sources", Hyten told reporters in a briefing. The United States formally welcomed home the remains at a ceremony on Aug 1.

The Pentagon said last week it was considering the possibility of sending personnel to North Korea to search for additional remains.
