China's Commerce Ministry says Vice Minister Wang Shouwen will meet with David Malpass, an assistant U.S. Treasury secretary for worldwide affairs.

The ministry issued a statement saying Beijing welcomes dialogue, but "will not accept any unilateral trade restriction measures".

A Chinese trade delegation will visit the U.S. this month to kick off a new round of talks, the first since negotiations broke down two months ago.

A war of sharp words also took place in January, when Turkey launched "Operation Olive Branch" against Kurdish fighters in Afrin. The United States placed sanctions on two Turkish officials earlier this month because of Brunson's case.

Trump has insisted on imposing tariffs on China and some US allies for national security reasons, even as Republicans and Democrats alike have warned that the policy will ultimately hurt American workers.

"There may be some manipulation but mostly I think investors are moving out of China because they don't like the economy, and they are coming to the United States of America because they like our economy".

China is sending a trade envoy to Washington in a renewed effort to end a worsening tariff dispute that has raised worries it will chill global economic growth.

"It is possible that China may stress to the USA that China will continue reform", he said.

The United States' economic boom is the "single most important political story" that has happened this year, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said Thursday.

Unless there is some breakthrough the United States and China are preparing to a next round of retaliatory levies, having implemented tariffs on $34 billion of each other's exports on July 6.
