Jones had about 900,000 followers on Twitter.

After weeks of controversy, Twitter officially banned conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his InfoWars site from its platform.

Twitter had previously resisted calls to ban Alex Jones, though it prevented him from posting on his account for a week last month.

"We took this action based on new reports of Tweets and videos posted yesterday that violate our abusive behavior policy, in addition to the accounts" past violations, ' the firm explained in a tweet.

Jones, who is the controversial InfoWars founder, repeatedly interrupted Rubio while he was attempting to answer questions from reporters during a recess in the Senate Intelligence Committee's hearing on foreign use of social media to influence United States politics.

The company made its decision a day after Jones accosted a CNN reporter, Oliver Darcy, on Capitol Hill, and livestreamed the encounter through Periscope, which Twitter owns. He'll also be banned from personally registering or operating any other Twitter accounts in the future.

Donald Trump Just Totally Threw His Deputy Press Secretary Under The Bus
He told Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross: "You're past your prime". Mr Dowd is quoted as telling the president: "Don't testify ". But, according to Woodward, Trump was not finished.

At one point he badgered Rubio as the Republican answered reporters' questions in a hallway. At the time, CEO Jack Dorsey said that Jones hadn't violated Twitter's policies but that the company would continue to monitor him and take action if he did so. Some of the parents of the victims have sued Jones for mental and emotional distress.

Rubio grew angry when Jones patted him on the shoulder, and told Jones not to touch him again.

"You want me to get arrested", Jones claimed.

Other tech companies have limited Jones by suspending him for longer periods, as Facebook did, and by taking down his pages and radio stations. "Glad Twitter is taking steps to put an end to the abusive behavior from Alex Jones & Infowars", the tweet stated.

While he began broadcasting his shows in 1999, Jones' profile has spread from the far-right fringe in recent years.

He criticised the journalist's reporting and appearance, referencing his "skinny jeans" and repeatedly saying, "just look at this guy's eyes" and "look at that smile". "You're a public figure too".
