However, the Justice Department filed a lawsuit an hour after it was greenlighted by Brown, seeking to block one of the toughest net-neutrality laws ever to have been passed in the US. The California law prevents broadband providers from slowing down or blocking websites, as well as charging higher fees for faster speeds.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that the Justice Department should not have to spend valuable time and resources to file this suit. "It's also about ensuring a level playing field for ideas and for businesses trying to compete".

Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, signed a legislation Sunday that forces changes at California-based corporations by the end of 2019, making California the first state to take that step. The lawsuit will decide whether federal or state governments can enact laws that affect national telecommunication companies. They argued that it was unrealistic to expect them to comply with internet regulations that differ from state to state.

The Justice Department nearly immediately filed its lawsuit, arguing Senate Bill 822 interferes with the federal government's deregulatory approach to the internet, according to a statement.

Rules governing online access have undergone numerous court challenges and regulatory moves over the past decade, and in December the Federal Communications Commission voted 3-2 along party lines to reverse a 2015 order which established net neutrality.

Tesla Model 3 Exploring All Options To Speed Up Deliveries
Long-time Tesla owners want to be part of what they see as a historic moment for the Palo Alto, California-based company. This comes after the intense pressure being placed on Musk to prove that the company can deliver its promises.

It was proposed after the Federal Communications Commission repealed Obama-era rules previous year that prevented internet companies from exercising more control over what people watch and see on the internet.

California was also the largest state to impose their own net neutrality regulations.

Supporters of Net Neutrality, Toyah and Lance Brown Eyes, protest the FCC's decision to repeal the program in Los Angeles, California, November 28, 2017.

On signing the bill, Governor Brown acknowledged that it would probably face legal and logistical challenges along its way to implementation, but recent political and social events have shown that women face obstacles in the workforce that men do not. According to the National Conference of State Legislators, almost one hundred bills and resolutions have been introduced throughout the United States. "The law prohibits many free-data plans, which allow consumers to stream video, music, and the like exempt from any data limits". "While the Trump Administration does everything in its power to undermine our democracy, we in California will continue to do what's right for our residents".

"I am hopeful that our incoming Legislature and governor will agree that the right to choose isn't just a slogan, but rather a commitment to improving true access to abortion for students across California", she said in a statement.
