Taylor Swift sets new American Music Award record, urges people to vote

The 2018 American Music Awards are nearly upon us, and ABC has assembled a surprisingly diverse crop of personalities to help us prepare for the big night. If you believe in equality for women, for people of colour, for the LGBTQ community.

This was not only the group's first American Music Award nomination, but it is also now their first award from this show. The show will also pay tribute to Aretha Franklin, who died in August. Her awards also led her to become the most decorated female artist at the AMAs, with 22 trophies.

Other winners included Post Malone (male pop/rock artist), Khalid (male soul/R&B artist), and country star Carrie Underwood, who accepted her 13th American Music Award. BTS has been announced as the victor of the Favorite Social Artist category!

"I just wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people", the 28-year-old said at Los Angeles' Microsoft Theatre.

Swift had announced on Sunday that she was voting for Tennessee's Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen, breaking her long-standing refusal to discuss anything politics.
