In an interview scheduled to air today, Mr Trump told CBS' 60 Minutes that Saudi Arabia would face strong consequences if involved in Mr Khashoggi's disappearance.

Citing an "official source", the Saudi Press Agency added that Riyadh "affirms its total rejection of any threats and attempts to undermine it".

The Turkish government has informed American officials that it has audio and video recordings proving that Jamal Khashoggi, the dissident Saudi journalist who disappeared from his country's consulate in Istanbul last week, was killed inside the building, according to United States and Turkish officials.

On Sunday, Saudis stock exchange dropped by as much as 7% at one point before recovering some losses.

Turkish officials say they fear Saudi agents killed Khashoggi after he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

US President Donald Trump called Khashoggi's suspected killing "a bad thing", but stopped short of assigning blame.

Donald Trump has rejected halting arms sales to Saudi Arabia over the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi.

With a Washington Post columnist's suspected murdered at the hands of Saudi Arabia, you would expect tough talk from the White House, sanctions, and a series of other gestures aimed at tampering down the tactic of assassinating unkind critics.

"If they don't buy it from us, they're going to buy it from Russian Federation or they're going to buy it from China or they're going to buy it from other countries", he said.

Almost two weeks since Jamal Khashoggi vanished in Istanbul, the shadow of the Saudi journalist's disappearance continues to loom ever larger.

"If they don't buy it from us, they're going to buy it from Russian Federation or they're going to buy it from China", he said.

Reports say that the USA and Britain are considering boycotting a major global conference in Saudi Arabia after the disappearance.

Saudi Arabia ended a 35-year ban on movie theaters with a screening of "Black Panther" in April.

It began with a mysterious disappearance: Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian citizen and USA resident, went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, 12 days ago.

Turkish authorities believe a 15-man hit squad flew into Istanbul, murdered Khashoggi and flew his dismembered body out of the country.

Major US defence contractors have expressed concern to the Trump administration that US politicians angered by Khashoggi's disappearance will block further arms deals with Riyadh.

In protest of Khashoggi's disappearance, several USA businesses leaders have pulled out of next week's Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, dubbed "Davos in the Desert", after the annual meeting of world economic interests in Switzerland.
